To Know God's Love

1 John 4:16 “We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us.”

How do we make this a true statement in our own lives? What can we do to come to know and to believe in the love God has for us? We can pray. We can develop devotions to certain things. We seek Jesus. We seek to know Him. We start with praying – Lord give me the desire to desire you and gradually grow from there. We pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet, mass, scripture reflection, rosary, novenas, and more. We sing praises to His name, pray the liturgy of the hours, and give our lives to him. We persevere through struggles and unite our cross to His so He can help us carry our cross.

What ways can you think of to make this statement true in your life?

Once Again

Pains of loneliness rest on my heart once again
The past haunts my mind once again
I thought this was done
I thought ‘twas finished
though here am I, once again
Suffering these pains of loneliness
This terrible hurt
Has returned once again
Once again, O once again, the pain has returned

May I rest in the loving heart of my Savior
May He console my aching heart
May He grant me strength to endure
May He be my one and only

My Savior
My Jesus
My beloved
Once again, I beg of you, dear Lord
Console my aching heart.

His Choice

The other day I was really beating myself up. I was so mad because I had messed up again. I had failed again. I had put worldly wants and desires before my prayer. I had let things of this world interfere with my relationship with God. I was so angry. I was angry with myself, more than that – I was disgusted with myself. I had literally just gone to confession for this sin and I was committing again- only 3 days later! After finishing my childish fit for lack of better terms, I realized that Christ knew that was going to happen. He knew that I would go to confession for rejecting Him and then 3 days later reject him yet again, for the same reasons, and He CHOSE, I say it again He CHOSE to die for me, for me, a poor, helpless, worthless sinner – for me He CHOSE DEATH! For YOU he chose death. For us, his children HE CHOSE DEATH!!! Can I make myself any clearer? Christ chose to die on the cross for me, knowing that I would put aside my relationship with him, knowing I would reject him, knowing I would sin and fail him. He did this for all of us. All of our days are written in his book. He knows the events of each day and the ways we will fail him and he still chooses to die for us. What great love the Father has for us, that He sends His only Son to die for us, knowing of all our failures and the Son follows through with this and chooses to suffer and die for us.

May we surrender ourselves to our God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! May we allow Him to cleanse us of our sins and give us a clean slate each time we go to confession. May we allow His love to consume Him and let Him wash us in the most precious blood shed by the Son in the Crucifixion.

“What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will understand later.” John 13:7

So often in this life we do not understand what Jesus is doing at the present moment. We do not understand why certain things happen. We do not understand why there is war in Iraq or in Libya, or why our schools have class during the Holy Triduum, or why relationships end. Here, when Jesus washes the feet of His apostles Peter does not understand why Christ must do this and Christ tells him in response “…you do not understand now, but you will understand later.” Someday you will understand, someday you will know why, someday you will see the beauty that will come from the mess.

Christ has a reason and a perfect plan for every occurrence in our lives. We may not always understand right away, but someday, with time, we will see the good that comes from the bad and we will see how Christ has His hand in place, directing all along and waiting for our yes to take the next step.

Christ Glorified

Our greatest desire should be for Christ to be glorified?...

We all desire things of vanity (things of this world) and search for the praise of others. We wake up and think what should I wear today? What are people going to think of this outfit? Am I going to be complimented by this? I hope I do really well on my test, so my parents are happy…I could go on all day. We’re concerned with what people think of us and we seek their approval in society.
                Christ says otherwise.
“How can you believe, when you accept praise from one another and do not seek the praise that comes from the only God?” John 5:44

When we are seeking approval of this world,
Christ is neither noticed nor acknowledged,
the noise of this world over powers. We don’t hear him. We don’t feel him.
We don’t see him. He is there, by our side,
but we are blind to him for we are seeking approval not of him, rather seeking the world.

Therefore, I encourage you to fast from things of this world. Fast from seeking the world’s approval and search for the approval of Christ. Instead of thinking, “is this outfit going to get me compliments?” think “is this outfit going to glorify the divine image of Christ within me?” “Is this going to make it easier for me to serve Christ in my day?” Will Jesus approve of this? Does this bring glory to God’s name?
Live for Christ, not for others.

Chosen & Loved

For you are a people sacred to the Lord, your God; he has chosen you from all the nations on the face of the earth to be a people peculiarly his own (Deut. 7:6). It was because the Lord loved you, that he freed you (Deut. 7:8). Understand, then, that the Lord, your God, is God indeed, the faithful God who keeps his merciful covenant down to the thousandth generation toward those who love him and keep his commandments (Deut. 7:9).

Sisters and brothers, we are sacred to the Lord, our God! We are treasured by Him; Exodus 19:5 – For you are my treasured possession. He has chosen you – he has chosen you for his own, you are his beloved. He has chosen you to serve Him. You are his.

The Lord has given us free will, freedom to choose to follow him. He gave us this freedom because he loves us and wants our love for him to be our choice. When we do not choose him, he remains faithful to us. He loves us regardless of our faults, our sins, our failures. He loves us even when we reject Him.He is the all merciful Father, who will forgive us when we return to Him. He loves us, unconditionally! He sent his only Son, to die on the cross, in hopes of gaining our love! Let us choose him. Let us thank him and praise him all the days of our lives.

His love for us, his beloved sons and daughters, is unending & unconditional!

God bless!

'Tis so Sweet to Trust in Jesus

I found this hymn the other day. I just want to share the lyrics with you.

’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
And to take Him at His Word;
Just to rest upon His promise,
And to know, “Thus says the Lord!”

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!

O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just to trust His cleansing blood;
And in simple faith to plunge me
’Neath the healing, cleansing flood!

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!

Yes, ’tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
Just from sin and self to cease;
Just from Jesus simply taking
Life and rest, and joy and peace.

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!

I’m so glad I learned to trust Thee,
Precious Jesus, Savior, Friend;
And I know that Thou art with me,
Wilt be with me to the end.

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust Him!
How I’ve proved Him o’er and o’er
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust Him more!
