Monday Memo

It's a few minutes late, but nonetheless, here's our weekly quote!

"O Father, give us the humility which realizes its ignorance, admits its mistakes, recognizes its need, welcomes advice, accepts rebuke. Help
us always to praise rather than to criticize, to sympathize rather than to discourage, to build rather than to destroy, and to think of people at their best rather than at their worst. This we ask for thy names sake.
(Prayer of William Barclay, 20th century)

Monday Memo

"Take, Lord and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding, my entire will, all that I have and possess. You have given all to me. To you, Lord, I return it. All is yours: dispose of it wholly according to your will. Give me you love and your grace; this is sufficient for me." -St. Ignatius Loyola

Monday Memo

"The great and firm foundation of the spiritual life is the offering of ourselves to God and being subject to his will in all things. If we only have sense enough to leave everything to the guidance of God's hands we should reach the highest peak of holiness." -Jean Pierre de Caussade

Keeping Our Faith Throughout Summer

SCHOOL'S OUT FOR SUMMER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! LET'S ALL GO NUTS!!!!!!!!

Or not, last week I went to Holy Grounds, a ministry event that occurs Tuesday nights at the Ohio State University's Newman center. One of my beautiful sisters in Christ lead a discussion about how to keep our faith going when we may not be surrounded by those who are close to us, so I simply took the list and posted below for those of you who aren't OSU Students.

Brothers and sisters, I encourage you to actually pick one or two of the things on this list to work on or try out for the summer. Don't lose your faith because you aren't surrounded by those who have helped you grow this year, rather use the 'free' time you may have to help grow closer to our good Lord and deepen your relationship with Christ.

What Can We Do This Summer To Stay Focused On God?
1. Go to daily Mass or read the daily mass readings
2. Find a community at home
3. Pray!
4. Service to others/ Service projects
5. Schedule time with God. Make a date with Him
6. Listen to Christian music. Or just any uplifting music for that matter.
7. Use the internet. There are lots of Christian/Catholic blogs.
8. God? There's an app/wigit for that.
9. Write letters to your Buckeye Catholic community.
10. Scrapbook things you're thankful for.
11. Call people in the Buckeye community to be built up.
12. Read spiritual reading, books by saints, and other Catholic literature.
13. Participate in the sacraments (especially reconciliation).
14. Get a saint calendar and learn about their lives.
15. Pray the rosary, or something similar.
16. Focus on specific intentions.
17. Pray the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be in your own words.
18. Spend time to discern.
19. Spend time simply listening to God.
20. Pray on your knees.
21. Structure your prayer.
22. Just stop.
23. Sing in the shower.
24. Memorize scripture. Write it on the shower wall, or just put it anywhere.
25. Spend time in nature. (This is one I added)

Forgiveness, of Ourselves

I just finished watching a movie called Johnny. The main character is a ten year old boy, who is a ward of the state, and dying of leukemia. However, Johnny is special. He has a special heart for God. He loves God so much and is so aware of the forgiveness Christ offers each of us.
Johnny is unafraid to speak of God to each person he meets, and inform them of God's love for us, and how He always forgives us our sins.

So often, it is a challenge for us to be able to forgive ourselves and trust in God's love for us. It's easy for us to see our sins and avoid going to confession. It's easy for us to be upset with those who hurt us, and be stubborn, so as not to forgive them whether they apologize or not. Most of all though, I think it's when we have our faults, and we hold onto them, we grasp tight to them, and don't permit the Lord to take our sins, our faults, our hurts, our pains, our mistakes, and heal us. Our God desires to heal us, we need to allow him to enter into our hearts.

What struck me most in the movie was a line that Johnny says to a mother who was struggling to forgive herself for her past. Johnny told her how God wants to forgive us, he has already forgiven us, we just need to let Him in. And Johnny tells his doctor the same thing - we need to let Jesus in so he can heal us.

Brothers and sisters, may we allow Jesus to come into our lives. May we be open to receiving the grace and forgiveness He desires to give us!

Here are some good bible verses for forgiveness, and lastly, I encourage each one of us to make appoint to apologize to others when we make mistakes, forgive ourselves for our own faults, forgive those who hurt, and do our best to strive to love all we meet.

Psalm 86:4-5 Gladden the soul of your servant, for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you.

Psalm 103:8-12 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He will not always chide, nor will he keep his anger forever. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.

2 Corinthians 2:5-8 Now if anyone has caused pain, he has caused it not to me, but in some measure—not to put it too severely—to all of you. For such a one, this punishment by the majority is enough, so you should rather turn to forgive and comfort him, or he may be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. So I beg you to reaffirm your love for him. (attitude: stand ready to forgive)
Ephesians 4:31-32 Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.(attitude: loving and forgiving just like God forgave you)

Monday Memo

"The more you abandon to God the care of all temporal things, the more He will take care to provide for all your wants; but if, on the contrary, you try to supply all your own needs, Providence will allow you to continue to do just that, and then it may very well happen that even necessities will be lacking, God thus reproving you for your want of faith and reliance on Him."

A Miracle Prayer

Fr. Peter Mary Rookey's Miracle prayer:

Lord Jesus, I come before you just as I am. I am sorry for my sins. I repent of my sins, please forgive me. In your name I forgive all others for what they have done against me. I renounce satan, the evil spirits and all their works. I give you my entire self, Lord Jesus, now and forever. I invite you into my life, Jesus. I accept you as my Lord, God and Saviour. Heal me, change me, strengthen me in body, soul and spirit.
Come, Lord Jesus, cover me with your precious blood, and fill me with your Holy Spirit. I Love You, Lord Jesus. I Praise You, Jesus. I Thank You, Jesus. I shall follow you every day of my life. Amen. Mary, my mother, Queen of Peace, St. Peregrine, the cancer saint, all you Angels and Saints, please help me. Amen.

A friend briefly told me about this prayer today. I want to start praying it daily, and encourage all of us to start saying it, that we may receive grace. To learn more about the priest and his ministry check out the link below :)
